what color tubes are used for which tests in phlebotomy?

Answers:
Red top (clot tube) chemistry general tests
Red/Gray speckle (clot tube with separator layer) general chemistry tests also.
Both above spun in a centrifuge, tests run on serum or plasma.
Purple cap (has anticoagulant) does red cell count, white cell count, sedimentation rate, ect all for a CBC. Complete Blood Count.
Grey cap (has anticoagulant) blood sugar.
Theres a wall chart on the BD website with a full product ID . System is called Vacutainer.
http://www.bd.com/vacutainer/pdfs/plus_p.
Here are a few:
CBC = small purple top
PT, PTT, INR = blue top
