What could be done to help a patient sleep?

Answers:
It depends if the patient is in a hospital; if so, minimize encounters during the night, i.e. don't walk into patient's room unless absolutely necessary. Or, decrease the noise level in the hospital, i.e. no overhead pages after certain time. If the patient is an outpatient, make sure the patient has good sleep hygiene (i.e., no excess nap during the day, no caffiene after certain time, etc). Make the patient have enough exercise if possible. Sleeping pill will be my last option.
Use Ambien, but make sure there is lots of food around
If they are very ill, you could help by counting their sheep for them.
ask for a mild sleeping pill
it should be okay
In most hospitals, stop waking them up to ask if they want a sleeping pill.
