What determines preferences? Why do I prefer tall men, the color blue and cats as opposed to short men, green?

Answers:
There are lots of factors. It can be genetic. Research studies have shown than week old infants prefer pictures of stereotypically socially "beautiful" people over average looking individuals. It can be conditioning; your opinion is swayed by what society feel is right, pleasant and beautiful. It can be biological; the factors around you during puberty would enact a preference for a "look," etc. It can be familial; rituals or expectations caused by your family.All interesting stuff!

The age old question: Nature vs. Nurture. In my opinion something may have happened in your childhood, wither conciously or unconciously that made you love cats, and tall men. Maybe your dad is tall? Read about the Baby Albert experiment and classical conditioning. It explains somethings.

I have had a whole bunch of theories as to why I have certain preferences(some below). To answer your question I would need to know your whole life story to be able to analyze you on why you like what you like.
For me blue is soothing and inviting.
Cats b/c I was raised with them always being around. Plus my Mother's cat used to sit on her belly when she was pregnant with me-Hence me liking to hear a cat purr.
I like men who are around my height b/c I'm self-conscious about my height. Plus, everyone in my family is taller than me so I would like my guy to be closer to my eye range.

Part is simply your genes and what you find attractive in a mate is what your brain feels will give you the best chance of having thriving offspring. Also its how you are raised. Traits that you are exposed to in a youth help you determine what qualities in a mate you find attractive as well. So its a little of both.

you find them aestetically pleasing to the eye. i myself am the very same. i prefer the color blue above any other color. I have always been attracted to tall guys. the taller the better! and i own 2 cats.
so if we lived close together i think you and i would be best friends!
